Education package for needy children (Bildungs- und Teilhabepaket)

  • Performance specification

    The aim of the educational package is not to deprive children from financially weak families of the necessary educational and participation opportunities. As an entitled person or as a parent, you have the opportunity to receive financial support from the state for this purpose:

    Up to a maximum of 18 years of age:

    • Participation in social and cultural life, e.g. in a sports club or music school, is supported with up to EUR 15.00 per month.

    Up to max. 25 years of age:

    • To ensure that pupils are equipped with the necessary learning materials, they receive an allowance for school supplies in two instalments on 1 August/beginning of the first school semester and on 1 February/beginning of the second school semester. The amounts are increased annually by the same percentage as the standard need.
    • Costs for supplementary appropriate learning support are covered if it is required in addition to school offers. Special requirements must be observed; the school must confirm the need.
    • For one-day excursions by schools, day care centres and in child day care, the costs are reimbursed at the actual amount.
    • For excursions of several days by day care centres and in day care for children as well as for school trips within the framework of school regulations, the costs are covered in the actual amount.
    • Subsidies are paid for communal midday meals for schoolchildren (if under the responsibility of the school) as well as for children in day-care centres and in day-care for children.
    • The necessary actual expenses for transport to the nearest school of the chosen course of education (monthly student tickets) are covered

  • Process flow

    If you receive benefits according to SGB II, SGX II or AsylbLG, the benefits for education and participation are already included in the application for the benefits to secure your livelihood. If you receive child allowance or housing benefit, you must submit a separate application.

    Eligible are children and young people up to the age of 25 who cannot cover their educational and participation needs from their own income and assets or from the family's own income and assets and who therefore have a claim to

    • Basic benefits for jobseekers or
    • Social assistance
    • Benefits under the Asylum Seekers' Benefits Act

    Age limit for benefits to participate in culture, sport and leisure: 18 years.

    Claims to benefits from the education and participation package under the Federal Child Benefit Act (for families with child supplement or housing benefit) expire 12 months after the end of the calendar month in which they arose.

Who do I need to contact?

The following are responsible according to place of residence in the case of entitlement on the basis of

  • Unemployment benefit II or social benefit according to SGB II is usually paid by the local job centre;
  • child allowance or housing benefit, the district city or district;
  • Social assistance according to Book XII of the Social Code (SGB XII) is provided by the city or district as the social assistance provider;
  • Asylum seeker benefits according to the AsylbLG the district city or district.
