Training and seminars for youth workers offered online

Even in the digital age, children and young people still have a great urge to move. It is therefore an important task of youth work to support this joy of action, but also to steer it in the right direction, e.g. by participating in a youth camp accompanied by trained counsellors. At the same time, child and youth workers should be familiar with the media that their protégés use parallel to physical activity. For both areas, the district's sports and youth work department has now conducted digital training courses, which have been well received.

Several seminars are held to prepare caregivers for their work at the district's children's and youth camps and other events. They are also available online, such as a unit in March on the role and self-image of a group leader, group pedagogy and group phases as well as developmental psychology - what makes children and young people tick? The next seminar will be about the concrete planning of holiday activities. All participants in the video conference hoped to be able to hold this seminar again in May as a face-to-face event.

"Media education in the field of children and youth work - taking into account current lifeworlds and challenges" was the topic of an online advanced training for full-time staff from the field of children and youth work. "The progressive mediatisation of our society today permeates all areas of life and not least also the everyday life of children, young people and families," emphasises head of department Matthias Schäfer. Under the current Corona conditions, learning, leisure activities and social contacts now take place even more via digital media, adds his deputy Andreas Greif.

Prof. Dr. Daniel Hajok, communication and media scientist, spoke about the important socialisation space that youth work forms alongside family, school and peers. Educators in this field of work are also challenged to take into account current developments in the media use of young people. The potentials and extended risks of the digital world must be addressed with adequate offers. During the one-day training, media education perspectives were presented in a practical way.
