Chestnut as a sign against violence against girls and women

The district women's office, the town of Bad Wildungen and the One Billion Rising alliance of women from Bad Wildungen, Edertal and Bad Zwesten have set a visible sign against violence against women and girls and for equality - and planted a sweet chestnut together in the labyrinth of the grounds of the State Garden Show in Bad Wildungen.

Due to the Corona pandemic, a dance demonstration could not take place as usual, as was often the case in previous years, so this year the organisers decided on a tree planting action - also because the motto of the worldwide One Billion Rising campaign this year is "Blooming Gardens", or "Rising Gardens - Rising for Women and Mother Earth".

The actual day of action already took place on 14 February. Due to the cool temperatures in February, the planting was postponed by a few weeks and recently took place in more pleasant temperatures. Thanks to good preparation by the gardeners of the city of Bad Wildungen, the sweet chestnut could be planted together with the help of the organisers and in compliance with the applicable Corona rules. A stone as well as a plaque will also be placed there in the near future - complementing the sign against violence against women and girls.

The action "One Billion Rising - One Billion Resing" (OBR) is a worldwide campaign for an end to violence against women and girls and for equality. With a lot of positive energy, the OBR protest action has succeeded in establishing itself as a symbol of global women's solidarity every year on 14 February.
