Numbers on the rise: Infected among unvaccinated and in schools

After the autumn holidays, the Corona infection figures in the district increase significantly: The incidence is currently 60.7. The virus is spreading especially among people returning from the holidays. This is also shown by the tests in the schools, which take place more frequently after the holidays as a precautionary measure. The district is therefore calling once again for people to follow the rules and get vaccinated if possible.

Rising disease figures

The fourth Corona wave has begun - and the cooler season, many relaxations and still too many unvaccinated people make it easy for the virus to spread further. "Currently, we are seeing high numbers of infections among the returning travellers and also in the schools," explains Karl-Friedrich Frese, First District Commissioner of the district. "Parallel to the climbing numbers in Hesse and nationwide, there will also be rising numbers of cases in Waldeck-Frankenberg." How hard the wave will hit the district depends on the behaviour of each individual.

District always vaccinates on Saturdays

Distance and hygiene rules are therefore still important. However, vaccinations are and will remain an essential factor in containing the pandemic. In order to support the GP practices, the district is therefore offering additional vaccination campaigns: Until the end of the year, anyone who wants to be vaccinated can be vaccinated on Saturdays from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. without making an appointment: on Saturday, 30 October at the health office Am Kniep 50 in Korbach. From November onwards, these will probably take place on Saturdays at the Corona Test Centre in Weizackerstrasse 12 to 14 in Korbach.

First vaccinations are possible until mid-November; second vaccinations until the end of the year. Children and adolescents from 12 years of age can also be vaccinated. Likewise, persons who have been vaccinated with the Johnson&Johnson vaccine can receive a vaccination according to the STIKO's recommendation in order to improve basic immunisation.

"Vaccination is the only effective means of returning to a normal life in the long term," says the head of the health department at the district medical officer, Thomas Hetche. "Anyone who decides against vaccination now is consciously opting for the virus with which they will sooner or later become infected." Together with District Administrator Dr. Reinhard Kubat and Karl-Friedrich Frese, he therefore calls on all people who are still hesitant to get vaccinated if possible: "We can understand worries or concerns. But we have good and safe vaccines that have been developed in a joint effort by researchers worldwide and that will ensure that people are protected and the pandemic is under control."

Flu vaccination also important

In addition to Corona, however, the flu vaccination should not be disregarded this season. "Corona and flu can be dangerous on their own," Thomas Hetche continues. "A simultaneous infection with both viruses can even be fatal, depending on the physical condition." For this reason, the physician generally recommends that everyone, but especially the elderly, pregnant women, sick people or other risk groups, also receive the flu vaccination from their family doctor. "If possible, the flu vaccination can be given at the same time as a (booster) vaccination against Corona.
