Catching up after Corona: parent cafés with read-aloud offers

The Youth Service of the Waldeck-Frankenberg District with its Early Intervention Department participates in the action programme "Catching up with Corona". This is a support programme of the Federal Early Help Foundation, funded by the Federal Ministry for Family Affairs, Senior Citizens, Women and Youth. The first family café started on 23 February in cooperation with the city of Korbach, and since 20 March a family café has been offered at regular intervals in the Frankenberg youth centre for parents with up to three-year-old children.

Now the offer is being expanded: The Frankenberg and Korbach municipal libraries will host parent cafés with reading aloud, the first date for which is Monday, 9 May 2022. In cooperation with the two municipal libraries, this offer is also aimed at parents with young children, with a focus on children from birth to 3 years of age. Siblings are also welcome. All parent cafés take place in accordance with the current Corona rules.

First District Councillor and Head of the Youth Department Karl-Friedrich Frese explains: "A child-friendly environment and guidance by library staff as well as an educational specialist offer the best conditions for all visitors to the parents' café to spend a few pleasant hours in the municipal libraries. Parents can look forward to interesting and stimulating readings, and can go on a journey of discovery into the world of books together with their child. In addition, parents and children can borrow so-called discovery backpacks, which are filled with age-appropriate picture books, read-aloud books, a hand puppet, a radio play and a Tonie figure, for example. The parents' café is planned for eight dates in 2022, three of which will be special events and two of which will be author readings.

At the event on Monday, 9 May in Frankenberg and on Tuesday, 10 May in Korbach, storyteller Johanna Gerosch will present "The Magic Book" in a live sound storytelling. Livesound Storytelling combines the centuries-old art of free storytelling with modern sound technology. With sound effects and the use of the whole body, Johanna Gerosch performs the adventure of a child in search of a book in his town. The soundtrack and sounds of the 40-minute story are created live and interactively with micro and loop station.

As there is only a limited number of participants for "The Magic Book", registration is required by 5 May 2022
