City of Korbach receives funding notification for day care centre "auf der Hauer

There is an increasing demand for childcare places in the entire district of Waldeck-Frankenberg. Improving the supply for the common good seems to be urgently needed. As Karl-Friedrich Frese, first district councillor and head of the youth department, emphasises, the district administration is more than aware of this and is working intensively to expand childcare capacities in line with demand. Thus, the district participates with a subsidy of 20 per cent of the eligible costs for construction, reconstruction and renovation measures in the day-care centres of Waldeck-Frankenberg. The corresponding funds were recently released by approving the 2022 district budget and are now being distributed.

The head of the youth department was pleased to be able to personally hand over one of the first funding decisions for a lighthouse project in the district after the release of funds: The "Kinderdorf auf der Hauer" is being built on the site of the demolished "Halle Waldeck" in Korbach. A project with a showcase character, according to Frese, which also enthused the administrative staff in his department for day-care centres.

The mayor of Korbach, Klaus Friedrich, received a grant of 110,000 euros from the youth department for the current year to support the building project. In the following two years, further grants of 300,000 euros and around 500,000 euros are planned. With this total of 910,000 Euros, the mentioned 20 percent district subsidy has been reached for the total costs of 4.55 million Euros for the construction of the "Children's Village".

"We have already done a lot in recent months to create more places for childcare in Korbach," explained Mayor Friedrich. The city played a major role in the expansion of the Protestant day-care centre "Noah's Ark" as well as in the new opening of the DRK Hanse day-care centre "Sternensegler". Unfortunately, the additional care capacity created there is not yet sufficient. Therefore, another municipal kindergarten, the "Kinderdorf auf der Hauer", is now under construction.

Single-storey timber frame construction, heating by a gas condensing boiler and photovoltaics on all roofs of the five individual buildings, one per group, this is how the day-care centre under construction presents itself in an appealing look. Sanitary facilities and bedrooms are located between the buildings, and the ancillary rooms are housed in a continuous "building block" as a kind of closure in front of the Medebacher Landstrasse running along the length. The facilities are complemented by a multi-purpose room with a children's bistro and kitchen. The "children's village" will offer space for three groups of 12 under-three-year-old children each and two groups of 25 over-three-year-old children each. 86 new places in the district and Hanseatic city alone are an addition to the childcare offer in Waldeck-Frankenberg, which is something to be proud of.

Background
Every year, the district of Waldeck-Frankenberg awards grants for construction measures as well as infrastructure improvements in kindergartens and day care centres. Further subsidies are possible from federal and state funds, so that local municipalities/carriers of the day-care centres do not have to cope with the entire costs. The district share is generally 20 per cent of the eligible costs. In 2022, 10 projects will benefit from a total of over 1.27 million euros in grants. These are

  • Municipal projects: City of Frankenau for the day care centre Ederstraße (creation of a forest group), City of Frankenberg (Eder) for the DRK family centre Philipp Soldan (new building), City of Gemünden (Wohra) for the ev. kindergarten (renovation), City of Korbach for the "Kinderdorf auf der Hauer" (new building) and the Rhenaer Kükennest (renovation), City of Volkmarsen for the day care centre "Feuerrotes Spielmobil" (replacement new building), City of Waldeck for the kindergarten Waldeck (renovation),
