Lecture on Landscape Design in Geo- and Nature Park on 21 April

The GrenzWeltenNational Geopark and the Kellerwald-Edersee Nature Park invite you to a lecture event on 21 April 2023 at 4 pm in the Wandelhalle Bad Wildungen. Two top-class speakers will shed light on important landscape shapers of the region: the Ice Age in Northern Hesse and the rock of the year 2023, greywacke. Registration for the free event is not required, interested parties are welcome. Further information is available at geopark@lkwafkb.de or info@naturpark-kellerwald-edersee.de.

It is a centre of attraction for numerous tourists, serves as a winter sports site, a biking arena and a recreation area for locals and visitors - our low mountain landscape. The Geopark and Nature Park will be providing information on 21 April in the Bad Wildung Wandelhalle about how this landscape came into being, what influences it has had and continues to have, and what special features are hidden within it.

Dr Christian Hoselmann from the Hessian State Agency for Nature Conservation, Environment and Geology will focus on the Ice Age in Northern Hesse, the most recent geological history, and take visitors on a journey through 2.6 million years. This geological era provides important insights into our climate and opens a very special window into the development of our landscape.

In the second lecture of the afternoon, Prof. Dr Michael Amler, Geological Institute of the University of Cologne, will talk about greywacke as this year's Rock of the Year and the most common rock in the Kellerwald. The grey-green sandstone is witness to a turbulent geological history in which the region was covered by a primeval sea. In addition to its significant influence on the shape of our landscape, greywacke has served as a building block for many important regional structures, including the Edersee dam.
