Women's Office invites you to the Korbach cinema for International Women's Day

For International Women's Day on 8 March, the Women's Office of the Waldeck-Frankenberg district invites you to Cine K Korbach this year: The film "Die Unbeugsamen" will be shown, which tells the story of women in the Bonn Republic who had to fight for their participation in democratic decision-making processes against men at that time. The event starts with a champagne reception at 6.30 pm, and the film starts at 7 pm.

In the time of the Bonn Republic, it was mainly men who were responsible for the day-to-day political business. Women had to fight hard for their participation in democratic decision-making processes against men. Sexism and belittlement were the order of the day. Several women in West Germany were not impressed by this. Sometimes patiently and sometimes ambitiously, they fought to have their voices heard.

As a document of a time in which prejudice and sexual discrimination threatened to thwart female politicians, the documentary film "Die Unbeugsamen" (The Unbending) by Torsten Körner at the same time draws a bow to the present. In the film, women politicians from then and now have their say and recall the turbulent times. According to the film description, their memories are at once funny and bitter, absurd and at times frighteningly topical. Interwoven with partly unseen archive clips, the film presents an emotionally moving chronicle of West German politics from the 1950s to reunification.

"We chose this film for our cinema event on International Women's Day because the documentary highlights and traces the struggle of strong women on their way in German politics," says the First District Commissioner of the district Karl-Friedrich Frese. "Undaunted, ambitious and with a lot of patience, they pursued their path in the old Federal Republic and defied prejudice and sexism," the district's women's representative Beate Friedrich continues. "When you look at the fact that even today four out of ten female politicians still experience sexism in their careers, the film is also a reminder that there is still work to be done on the path to equality."

The district's women's office therefore cordially invites all interested parties to the event at the reduced admission price of five euros per person. Cinema tickets are available now - by email to info@kinokorbach.de, by phone at 05631 568-950 or online at www.kinokorbach.de.
