New childminders: district hands over certificates

Karl-Friedrich Frese, first district councillor and head of the youth department, welcomed seven new childminders to the ranks of the childminders in the district of Waldeck-Frankenberg. The five women and two men have successfully completed their basic training and received their certificates as child minders. For the first time, an activity-accompanying qualification of the new training system according to the competence-oriented quality manual for child day care (QHB) was also part of the training. Here, nine already active child day care workers took part in the training to expand and deepen their competences and experience.

In his welcoming speech to the newly qualified participants, the First District Commissioner emphasised that child day care is an indispensable care service in the district, especially for children under the age of three. The district is taking this into account by constantly expanding the offer. And the childminders themselves are also being taken care of: on 1 January 2023, they will receive a 7.62 per cent increase in material costs to compensate for the general increase in living and energy costs, which are also noticeable in child day care.

As the demands on childminders have increased from year to year, the content of the course has become more demanding, Frese continued. "Good training is particularly important for childminders in their responsible work." Since 2020, the basic qualification has therefore been carried out according to the QHB in 300 teaching units, 160 of which are the activity-preparing phase for teaching the necessary competences in the 1st part and 140 of which are the activity-accompanying phase for expanding and deepening the acquired competences in the 2nd part.

In this theory-practice link, what is learned in the first part is applied in the work as a day care worker and is then reflected on in the second part. The qualification measures have been conducted for many years by the Kreisvolkshochschule, whose director Manuel Wolf pointed out the good cooperation between the vhs and the district.

During the small ceremony to present the certificates, Karl-Friedrich Frese, Head of the Youth Department, and Monika Padberg-Koert, Child Day Care Supervisor, were also able to present two special awards to deserving child minders. Ms Heidemarie Rudolph from Korbach-Strothe has been working in day care for 12 years, Ms Karin Bender from Bad Wildungen for 45 years. However, both ladies are now ending their work and were bid farewell with heartfelt thanks for their many years of service.

The next qualification to become a child day care worker starts on 3 February 2023, another qualification starts this year on 6 October. If you are interested, please contact the child day care supervisor at monika.padberg-koert@lkwafkb.de or call 06451 743-781.
