District inaugurates school building of Schlossbergschule Rhoden

After about twelve months of construction, the new school building for the Schlossbergschule Rhoden was completed and put into operation in February this year. Now the district of Waldeck-Frankenberg has officially inaugurated the building, which was erected on the site of the former primary school pavilion and in which it invested around 1.38 million euros.

Flexible use of the rooms
In the past few months, a barrier-free, single-storey new building has been constructed with three classrooms, a differentiation room, a room for school social work and corresponding sanitary facilities, which is used by pupils in grades five and six. The building was planned in such a way that two of the newly created classrooms can either be used separately or connected to each other as a multi-purpose room by means of a mobile partition wall. This creates a maximum of flexible and barrier-free use for lessons or other school activities for the primary, secondary and intermediate school, which is currently attended by around 285 pupils.

The new construction consists of a reinforced concrete floor slab, exterior and interior walls in timber frame construction with generous window areas and a flat-pitched foil roof with green roof design. The entire new building is also equipped with a ventilation system and is heated by a heat pump using underfloor heating. For the ventilation system, the district received an amount of 120.0 T€ in federal funding for a Corona-compliant stationary ventilation and air-conditioning system. The classrooms are equipped with the latest technology with media columns, displays and WLAN to enable interactive and digital teaching. The new building had become necessary because the former rented primary school building was in great need of renovation, but an economic upgrade was not possible.

Renovation of the existing building
In addition to the new building, the existing building has also been renovated and modernised: Three former subject rooms were converted into classrooms, which nevertheless still meet the requirements for subject teaching. The district also invested an additional 70,000 euros in this project.
