Promoting diversity in the workplace: Diversity Day at the District Administration

Promoting recognition, appreciation and diversity in the world of work: This was also a central message of this year's Diversity Day, for which the district of Waldeck-Frankenberg offered numerous activities for its employees at the district administration on 23 May.

Plea against hate and for humanity
Art exhibition, photo competition, concert, varied food: On the occasion of the nationwide day of action, the team of the Migration and Integration Office and the Women's and Equal Opportunities Office put together a small programme of activities at the Korbach District Hall: At lunchtime, the KreisBar invited guests to enjoy a varied menu - a mix of Asian, African, Caribbean, French and American cuisine. The break was accompanied by music by regional artist Nadine Fingerhut, who also makes a fiery plea for humanity and against hate in her songs. Furthermore, the results of a small photo campaign were exhibited, in which all employees of the district could submit pictures on the topic of "diversity in the workplace" beforehand.

Kreishaus becomes colourful
The Diversity Day was also the start of a four-week art exhibition in the corridors of the Korbach Kreishaus: Biruk Mengistu from Bad Wildung, who comes from Ethiopia, is exhibiting his powerful and colourful works for a month, in which he tries to express his feelings on canvas and with watercolour, oil and acrylic paints, line structures and diverse motifs. The trained nurse has already shown numerous exhibitions with the association Kunstraum Bad Wildungen - among others in the Wandelhalle, the Martin Luther House, at the University of Marburg, Frankenberg and Fritzlar.

"In 2019, we as a district signed the Diversity Charter - and thus made a conscious decision to cultivate an organisational culture that meets the changing demands of a modern, diverse society even more consciously in the future," says District Administrator Jürgen van der Horst on the occasion of Diversity Day. "The aim is to make our employees even more aware of the demands of a diverse society - and also to send a clear signal that the district is actively addressing the issue," adds First District Commissioner Karl-Friedrich Frese. The aim is to create a living and working environment that is free of prejudice: everyone should experience appreciation and respect - regardless of gender and gender identity, nationality, ethnic origin, religion or world view, disability, age, sexual orientation and identity.
