Next nationwide warning day takes place on 13 March

In order to be able to warn people in the best possible way in the event of possible disasters, the various warning devices are rehearsed at regular intervals - including on the first state-wide warning day on 13 March in Hesse. On this day, sirens will therefore also be triggered in Waldeck-Frankenberg and test warnings will be sent to smartphones. Important to know: The day is a test, there is no real danger.

Preparing for potential crises
Dangerous weather conditions, chemical accidents, power failures, fires and much more: situations in which the population must be warned of dangers across the board can be many and varied. In the hope that these may not materialise, it is nevertheless advisable to prepare for an emergency - and also to practise warning the population. After all, the more familiar you are with the topic, the more independently and effectively you can act and protect yourself in an actual crisis situation.

Warning by siren, push message and Cell Broadcast warning system
On 13 March, the 227 digitised sirens and the 45 analogue sirens in Waldeck-Frankenberg will therefore sound from 10.15 am. The aim is to trigger all 272 sirens in the district - whether analogue or via digital radio. In addition, those who have downloaded warning apps such as HessenWARN or NINA, etc. to their mobile phones will be informed of the test alarm by push message, provided they have activated the function.

And: all smartphone users are also warned via mobile radio: using the Cell Broadcast warning function, all mobile phone users who have loaded the latest operating system and activated the function for receiving test warnings are automatically sent a text message that also informs them about the warning test. The system sends messages to all compatible devices that are logged into a cell.

The all-clear should then be given again at around 10.50 a.m. on the nationwide warning day. The trial warning tests the various warning devices and the procedures in the event of a warning with the aim of identifying possible technical weaknesses in the function of the warning devices and in the warning procedures and, if necessary, eliminating them afterwards in order to continuously improve the warning of the population in the event of an emergency.

Background: Nationwide warning day
The nationwide warning day in the autumn of each year has been established to test the warning media and raise public awareness of warnings. In addition to this nationwide warning day, a state-wide warning day is now to be established in each of the federal states. The aim is to test the triggering of regional warning media via the infrastructure of the Hessian districts and independent cities. In a nationwide vote, the state-wide warning day has been set for the second Thursday in March in the morning every year.
