Civil Protection Day on 12 July: District provides information
Today is Civil Protection Day: The district of Waldeck-Frankenberg is providing information about civil protection measures. Emergency preparedness for potential hazards - such as floods or fires - gives those affected peace of mind and ensures faster and more targeted action in an emergency. To this end, the district has summarised all information on its website at www.landkreis-waldeck-frankenberg.de/schutz. In addition, citizens can take part in today's information and exchange programme organised by the Hessian Ministry of the Interior, Security and Homeland Security from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at Königsplatz in Kassel.
Civil defence in the district of Waldeck-Frankenberg
The district of Waldeck-Frankenberg works closely with the federal government and the state of Hesse within the framework of civil defence to ensure that the district is optimally prepared for various crisis scenarios. Civil protection encompasses all measures that ensure the safety and protection of the population in the event of a disaster, such as a permanent power outage or a major fire. "It is good for the population to know in advance what they can prepare for in the event of an emergency. In an emergency, preparedness provides security and time for the essentials," explained Karl-Friedrich Frese, First District Councillor.
As the lower disaster control authority, the district is responsible for updating the disaster control plan, among other things. This plan includes specific measures for emergencies such as permanent power cuts, storms, major fires or drought. In addition, a disaster management team is set up in preparation for possible disasters. Partner organisations from the region, such as the Deutsche Lebens-Rettungs-Gesellschaft e. V., the Technische Hilfswerk and others, also provide support with these tasks.
Civil defence measures
"In the area of civil defence, we are currently working on civil alarm planning, in particular on the creation of an alarm calendar to ensure and prepare civil measures, such as supplying the civilian population and defence capability," explained Gerhard Biederbick, district fire inspector and head of rescue services, fire and disaster control. An important part of civil defence is warning the population. Warning systems such as the cell broadcast, various warning apps such as HessenWARN and the classic sirens are used for this purpose. In most towns and municipalities in the Waldeck-Frankenberg district, the siren control units have already been converted from analogue to digital radio.
Recommendations for self-care
"We recommend that all citizens inform themselves about the federal government's emergency preparedness guide. Among other things, this guide contains information on which documents should be kept ready for which eventuality and how you can prepare for an emergency," added the district fire inspector. The guide is available on the district's website at www.landkreis-waldeck-frankenberg.de/schutz and summarises helpful tips on how to prepare for a disaster. It also contains helpful facts, answers to frequently asked questions and links to further information from the relevant authorities at state and federal level. In addition to this online information service, citizens will also be able to talk to experts from the Hessian Ministry of the Interior, Security and Homeland Security on 12 July from 10 am to 4 pm at Königsplatz in Kassel and obtain individual information about civil protection and preparedness measures.
