District promotes construction measures in day-care centres

In 2025, the district of Waldeck-Frankenberg is continuing its consistent support for the expansion of childcare: the district has subsidised various construction measures at daycare centres with a total of around 569,000 euros and a funding share of 20 percent. The highest individual grant went to the town of Frankenberg (Eder) for the conversion and expansion of the day care centre in Röddenau. First District Councillor Karl-Friedrich Frese presented the funding notification totalling around 325,000 euros to Mayor Barbara Eckes last month.

"Investing in early childhood education is an investment in the future of our region," emphasises Karl-Friedrich Frese, First District Councillor. "Especially in times of increasing demands on the compatibility of family and career, it is our task to support the municipalities in this important infrastructure task." It had already become apparent in the past that the Röddenau daycare centre would not have enough space to meet the demand for childcare places. For this reason, the daycare centre is not only being remodelled, for example to enlarge the kitchen and create a bistro area and a new language corner, but it is also being extended. "After the remodelling and expansion, our daycare centre in Röddenau will have space for another regular group and a crèche group. This means that we can offer a total of 112 children a place in the daycare centre," adds Mayor Barbara Eckes.

The town of Frankenberg is investing 2,950,000 euros in the Röddenau daycare centre. Last year, the district already paid out a sum of 265,000 euros in support to the town and this year, the First District Councillor is also handing over a grant of around 325,000 euros. "As a district, we don't just want to administer, we want to organise - and that means helping where families benefit directly," Frese continues.

Another major project was funded in Bad Arolsen: The former police station in Mengeringhausen is being converted into the "Spatzennest" daycare centre. To support the town in its project, the district provided around 190,000 euros this year. Last year, the amount of funding totalled around 360,000 euros.
