International Museum Day at the Museum im Kloster on 17 May
International Museum Day will take place on 17 May from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. at the Museum im Kloster St. Georgenberg in Frankenberg. The motto is "Museums as bridge builders" and focuses on the unifying role of museums. Anyone interested is cordially invited to attend.
Creative bridges across social boundaries
"As places of dialogue and understanding, museums can bring people together and use creative formats to build bridges across social, cultural and political boundaries," says Dr Birgit Kümmel, the honorary director of the Museum im Kloster Frankenberg. "Under this motto, we would like to cordially invite all guests to our recently redesigned museum in the monastery."
Guided tour, rally and word puzzles with the museum ghost
At 11.30 a.m., there will therefore be a short guided tour of around 45 minutes through the newly designed museum. There will also be a museum rally and word puzzles with the museum ghost Wigand and various colouring activities for children and young people. There will therefore be a varied cultural programme for young and old.
Exhibition on the city and regional history
The museum in the St. Georgenberg convent was founded in 1952 as a local history museum in the north wing of the Cistercian convent of St. Georgenberg, which was dissolved during the Reformation. This 13th century building, which housed various offices from the mid-16th century, is still home to the museum today. Following a comprehensive redesign, visitors will find an exhibition on the history of the town and the region in the former cloister, the refectory, the dormitory and the Romanesque Mauritius Chapel. It leads from the great heyday of humanism to the industrialisation and modern era of the 19th and 20th centuries. There is therefore plenty for interested visitors to learn and discover. Admission to International Museum Day is free. Further information can be found here.
