Funding decision for road construction project handed over - K 25 to be further expanded
The district of Waldeck-Frankenberg was delighted to receive an early Christmas present at the beginning of calendar week 51. Knut John, the State Commissioner for Rural Areas, travelled from the Wiesbaden Ministry of Economic Affairs to personally hand over a funding notification for 1,573,600 euros.
The financial support was granted as part of the transport infrastructure funding in Hesse in accordance with the Mobility Promotion Act and is being used to upgrade the K 25 district road in several construction phases; the K 25 runs from the junction of the L 3084 (Vöhl-Alraft) to Hof Lauterbach via Obernburg to the connection to the B 252 near Dorfitter. The district of Waldeck-Frankenberg is responsible for the costs and the construction costs of these measures totalling over 2 million euros.
At the presentation of the funding decision, state representative John emphasised the importance of a high-quality transport infrastructure, not only in the conurbations, but above all in rural areas. In the district of Waldeck-Frankenberg in particular, with its 490 kilometres of district roads, a functioning network is needed to maintain a high quality of life.
"The K 25 is an important connection for the people in the municipality of Vöhl, especially to Korbach," confirmed Karl-Friedrich Frese, First District Councillor. Whether for road safety in school bus operations or for the emergency services, the district is very keen to ensure that all municipalities have sensible, practical and economical access. Despite the difficult budget situation, it was therefore a matter of course to once again earmark a large sum of 10 million euros for district road construction in the 2026 district budget.
The upcoming construction project on the K 25 is the third construction section between the L 3084 (Vöhl-Alraft) and Obernburg - a gap closure that will make the entire route of the district road really attractive, according to Martin Riehl, Head of Construction North Hesse at HessenMobil. Work will begin as soon as weather conditions permit, probably in spring 2026. As this section is located in a water protection area, it will be fundamentally upgraded in accordance with the legal requirements for groundwater protection. This also includes widening the carriageway to six metres. Further information on the closure during the construction work and the diversion route will follow shortly after the start of the construction work.
