Study with the district

At the Waldeck-Frankenberg district, the motto is "Who likes to learn alone?!" Because anyone who decides to study at the district administration can look forward to a team of young and committed colleagues who will embark on this new stage of life with them. Led by the dynamic training team, the next three years will be exciting, diverse, varied and full of new experiences.

Bachelor of Arts - Public Administration

The theoretical content is taught at the Hessian University of Public Management and Security in Kassel (HöMS). The practical training takes place in several practical sections in the various specialised services of the district administration.

6 semesters = 3 years / start 01.09. each year

We offer graduates with a vocational baccalaureate (Fachabitur) or high school diploma (Abitur) and good grades in German, mathematics and politics/economics the opportunity to complete the dual study programme for a Bachelor of Arts in Public Administration - i.e. the higher non-technical civil service career path. The theoretical content (legal and business subjects, social sciences and some elective modules) is taught at the Hessian University of Public Management and Security in Kassel (HöMS). Among other things, modules such as methods, administrative action, economic action and framework conditions of public administration are taught here.

During the practical semesters, you gain exciting insights into different areas of the district administration. In the last semester, you have to write your academic thesis. Here, a problem from practice is worked on and then defended in an oral examination (colloquium). During the course of study, students are initially appointed as civil servants and may call themselves inspector candidates.

You should enjoy dealing with laws and be interested in teamwork. Of course, a great willingness to learn and perform is a prerequisite. You should also enjoy dealing with citizens seeking advice.

According to § 5 of the Hessian Holiday Ordinance, students have 30 days of holiday per calendar year.

According to the Hessian Working Hours Ordinance (HAZVO), the working hours of students are 41.0 hours per week.

According to the Hessian Salary Act (HBesG), the salary is €1,367.62 per month and approximately €2,900 after successful completion of the degree.

Further information is also available online on the website of the Hessian School of Public Management and Safety.

Bachelor of Arts - Social Work (dual)

Since 2021, the district of Waldeck-Frankenberg has also offered the opportunity to study social work. In cooperation with the Fulda University of Applied Science, this course of study takes place in the dual system and predominantly online.

The study programme usually extends over eight semesters (4 years) and takes place in 17 online modules and 8 face-to-face modules.

Applicants should be able to prove that they have successfully completed the Abitur, the Fachhochschulreife or an educational qualification recognised as equivalent or the university entrance qualification according to § 54 HHG. If you also take social commitment for granted and have strong communication skills, this degree programme is a good choice.

Students can look forward to a varied, practice-oriented dual study programme. During the studies, you are on the road together with a large team of other trainees and students.

According to § 10 TVPöD, the holiday entitlement is 30 days per calendar year.

According to § 7 TVPöD, the weekly working hours are 15.0 to 28.0 hours. The number of hours is adjusted individually to the study conditions with the training supervisor.

The course of study is fully financed by the district and one also receives additional remuneration according to the collective agreement for professional trainees in the public service (§ 8 TVPöD).

Further information on the training is available on the website of Fulda University of Applied Sciences.

This is what our students say about this degree programme:

"The biggest advantage of the dual study programme is that you can already gain valuable practical experience in the various specialised services during your studies. This allows you to link this with the learning content of the university. You get a good insight into the diversity of the profession and the different tasks. The dual study programme helps you find your focus for your future career. The mixture of online learning and face-to-face events at the university makes for varied learning. The learning times can be taken individually and flexibly in consultation with the specialist services, which makes it possible to combine work and private life well. This enables us to work very flexibly and independently. The regular meetings with the practice supervisor in the district administration help with questions and concerns that arise." Tiana de Matos Martins & Jessica Hecker-Robinson, Bachelor of Arts (Social Work)

This is what our student says about this degree programme:

I decided to study Civil Engineering Construction Management, Construction and Infrastructure because I would like to plan, manage and lead my own construction projects later on. The degree programme offers the ideal conditions for this and the practical phases allow you to directly apply and deepen the theory you have learned. The district administration as an employer is interesting for me because it is now possible for me to work, study and live at home. So far, what I like most about the district is the independent work and the team spirit. Noah Lukes, Bachelor of Arts (Civil Engineering, specialising in construction management, construction and infrastructure)
