New StudiumPlus building: District hands over building permit

The dual study programme Studium Plus of the Technische Hochschule Mittelhessen and the CompetenceCenter Duale Hochschulstudien - StudiumPlus e.V. in Frankenberg is getting a new building on the former site of the multi-storey car park. This has already been demolished in recent months and the area prepared. Now the new building on Uferstrasse can begin: the district of Waldeck-Frankenberg recently handed over the building permit to FingerHaus.

Completion in August 2026
The foundation stone for the project is due to be laid in June. A four-storey building in hybrid construction - i.e. made of wood, concrete and steel - will be built, in which study and administrative operations will take place on two levels. The new building will provide new, modern and needs-orientated premises for up to 200 students and an additional 25 flats for students and other private tenants on two further levels. The concrete skeleton construction is due to be completed in the autumn, after which the assembly of the timber construction will begin. The building is due to be completed and handed over to the district in August 2026.

District rents new building for 25 years
The construction project is being realised as a public-private cooperation project, or PPP model for short. PPP stands for "Public Private Partnership" and means that a private company plans, constructs and finances the building and also operates it. In this case, FingerHaus GmbH from Frankenberg was awarded the contract following a Europe-wide tendering process. In this case, the district is renting the building for 25 years to house the Frankenberg site of the Technische Hochschule Mittelhessen. The new StudiumPlus building is the second project that the district has financed in this way: The new building for the vocational schools in Kasseler Straße in Korbach was already built using this model.

"Attractive inner-city location"
"With the site on Uferstrasse, we have worked with the town of Frankenberg to find an attractive inner-city location in a central position for the new building, which will offer students optimal conditions," said Karl-Friedrich Frese, First District Councillor, at the handover of the building permit to Klaus Cronau, Managing Director of FingerHaus. He expressed his thanks for the excellent cooperation and the trust placed in him to make the project a success together. Klaus Cronau continued: "We are grateful and proud of our employees, who have performed exceptionally well, enabling us to win this Europe-wide tender."

District Administrator Jürgen van der Horst emphasises: "The construction of the new university building is a very clear commitment to the THM location in Frankenberg." The campus in the Philipp-Soldan town is to be further developed, new premises for modern teaching are to be created and thus made fit for the future. "The THM is and will remain an important factor for Waldeck-Frankenberg as a centre of education and business," the district administrator continues to position himself clearly. "We want to offer young people the best study conditions here locally." The needs-orientated and future-proof infrastructure plays a decisive role in this.
