District Administrator Jürgen van der Horst welcomes travelling journeymen

District Administrator Jürgen van der Horst recently received a rather unusual visit to the district building in Korbach: The two righteous foreign journeymen locksmiths Boas Meyer and Wilhelm Haase, who stopped off in the district of Waldeck-Frankenberg on their journeyman's journey, were guests.

In keeping with the old custom, the two announced their arrival by knocking on the door of the district administrator's office, knocking their Stenz, the walking stick, on the floor and reciting a traditional welcome rhyme. They reported on their journeys and previous stops and also received the official seal of the district administration in their walking book - an official entry documenting each stop on their journey. Boas Meyer has been travelling for two years and eight months, Wilhelm Haase for eight days. As a farewell gift, the district administrator presented them both with a small financial contribution. He and the district administration team expressed their sincere thanks for the extraordinary visit and wished the two journeymen a good journey, good luck and success.

The Walz is a voluntary journey that young journeymen can embark on after completing their journeyman's examination. In the past, this was particularly common in the building trade. Today, it is open to all trades: In addition to carpenters, joiners and roofers, bakers, cooks, gardeners, tailors, stonemasons, milliners and locksmiths also embark on this journey.
