Kiwanis Club supports circus project
The district of Waldeck-Frankenberg is delighted to receive support from the Kiwanis Club Frankenberg for its annual circus project. With a donation of 565 euros, the service club is helping to ensure that children from disadvantaged backgrounds can also take part in this popular event, as it has done for many years.
Strengthening skills, building self-confidence
The "Kinder machen Zirkus" project has been running for over 20 years in cooperation with the youth welfare centre of the town of Frankenberg. The aim is to offer children creative development opportunities, strengthen social skills and build self-confidence. The project consists of two event formats: the taster week in February and the circus week before the summer holidays.
Taster week in spring, circus week in summer
During the taster week, children can get to know and try out various circus disciplines such as juggling, trapeze and tightrope walking. It offers them low-threshold access to the world of the circus and gives many children their first creative experiences. In the circus project itself - which always takes place in the summer - the children then develop a varied programme in various workshops, which is presented in public performances at the end of the week. They are guided by the circus education team from Circus Dobbelino.
"Thanks to the Kiwanis Club's donation, children who would not have been able to take part in the project without financial support are able to do so every year," says District Administrator Jürgen van der Horst, delighted with the financial support. "The funds are therefore used specifically to promote equal opportunities and participation." The district would like to express its sincere thanks to the service club for this.
"Support is a tradition, but cannot be taken for granted"
The project is also being realised with the support of the town of Frankenberg. "The circus project shows how important joint commitment is for our children. The support from Kiwanis has almost become a tradition - but it is anything but a matter of course. Together we give our children valuable experiences full of courage, creativity and team spirit," says Barbara Eckes, Mayor of Frankenberg.
Kiwanis is a global, non-partisan and interdenominational volunteer organisation that works for the well-being of children and the community under the motto "Serving the Children of the World". With its charity campaigns, it regularly supports social projects for and with children in the old Frankenberg district. "Because support succeeds where children are seen, taken seriously and encouraged to show their own strengths. To try out something that they would not have dared to do themselves before," says Eckhard Eitzenhöfer, Chairman of the Kiwanis Club Frankenberg. "That's why this project is a perfect fit for the Kiwanis spirit."
