Village and regional development and agriculture become one
There was a change in the departmental structure of the Waldeck-Frankenberg district administration on 1 January 2026: The village and regional development department was dissolved and incorporated into the agriculture department. The result is the new joint Rural Areas Department.
The organisational changes mean that the two departments, which already had many interfaces in the past, can now work together even more effectively. All of the tasks that the two former specialised services previously carried out will remain the same. This means that there will be no noticeable change for citizens - all contact persons for the various topics will also remain the same.
By merging the two organisations, however, issues such as the further development of rural areas, the strengthening of villages and town centres, agricultural businesses as key players in rural areas and land use can now be even better interlinked. Furthermore, a holistic view can be taken of rural areas with topics such as agriculture, village development, landscape conservation and regional value creation - including even more efficient management of funding from the various support programmes. The head of the new specialised service is Karlfried Kukuck, head of the former specialised service for agriculture.
