Milestone for THM campus: New building for Studium-Plus is growing

The new Finger Haus building for the dual study programme Studium-Plus at the Technische Hochschule Mittelhessen (THM) on Uferstraße in Frankenberg is progressing on schedule and at a rapid pace. Around six months after the official ground-breaking ceremony at the beginning of July 2025, the shell of the new campus building has been completed and the interior work is in full swing.

This marks a key milestone in the construction project, which aims to strengthen Frankenberg as a university location in the long term. On the site where the Frankenberg multi-storey car park was located until summer 2024, a contemporary, four-storey building is now being built in a central city centre location. In future, the new building will serve THM's dual study programme as a modern and multifunctional university location.

The district is realising the project as part of a PPP model. This means: PPP stands for "Public Private Partnership" and means that a private company has planned, built and financed the building and also operates it. The district rents the building from Finger Haus to house the Frankenberg site of the Technische Hochschule Mittelhessen - for 25 years according to current plans.

District Administrator Jürgen van der Horst sees the construction project as a clear signal in favour of the Frankenberg location. The aim is to consistently develop the campus in the Philipp-Soldan town, to create modern learning and working spaces and to position the location sustainably for the future. The THM plays a central role for education and the economy in the Waldeck-Frankenberg district - and will offer young students optimal study conditions and a needs-based infrastructure in the future.

The two lower floors of the new building will in future house modern, functional and customised rooms for Studium Plus. Up to 180 students will find optimal conditions for their dual study programme there. In addition, flats of various sizes will be built on the two upper floors. These are intended for THM students, among others, and have separate access. According to the current schedule, the building is due to be completed in August 2026. Studium Plus is scheduled to move into the new building and start university operations at the new location in autumn 2026.
