District to offer training in leisure care again in 2026

The district of Waldeck-Frankenberg is once again offering a varied and practical training programme for leisure time supervisors in the coming year. The basic pedagogical training course qualifies those interested in independently leading, accompanying and supervising children's and youth leisure activities - and gives them the opportunity to gain practical experience in working with children and young people.

In addition to important basic knowledge, participants can expect a colourful mix of methods, games, group processes and many practical elements. This allows them to try out directly whether they enjoy working with children and young people. "The training offers a great opportunity to grow beyond yourself, take on responsibility and at the same time be active in a strong community. Our leisure teams are just as colourful as our children's and youth groups and ensure a varied experience," says Jessica Hecker-Robinson from the Sports and Youth Work Department.

Many former participants report that the training is a real community experience. Getting to know new people, getting creative as a team, developing ideas together - all this helps to start the camps well prepared and motivated. The friendships that develop often last far beyond the training programme.

For their work, the carers receive an expense allowance, reimbursement of travel expenses and free board and lodging during their free time. The work can also be recognised as an internship; time off for voluntary work is also possible.

The training will take place from 30 January - 2 February 2026 and from 8 - 10 May 2026 at the Hardehausen Youth Centre. A further date will follow after the first seminar in consultation with the participants; it will focus on specific leisure activities. In summer 2026, there will then be attractive opportunities for the trained carers, including camps on the North Sea in Otterndorf, on the Baltic Sea in Dahme and in Zell am See in Austria.
