Canteen at Frankenberg's Regenbogenschule inaugurated
The Rainbow School in the Philipp Soldan town of Frankenberg an der Eder can now look forward to a new canteen. District Administrator Jürgen van der Horst was also a guest at the official opening of the bright, large, friendly room. "Today is a good day for the Regenbogenschule," he emphasised, praising the successful implementation of the plans for the extension. The new canteen, equipped with floor-to-ceiling windows and a bright and clear colour scheme, seats around 90 people, has underfloor heating and is connected to the school building without barriers.
As part of the extension for the canteen, which was started in spring 2024, part of the basement of the Regenbogenschule was also given a structural update. This made it possible to optimally realise the all-day offer in the form of a well-equipped serving kitchen with adjoining rooms at the school. The childcare rooms required for the school were accommodated in the neighbouring adult education centre on the ground floor within walking distance. 1.935 million euros were invested in the overall project, supported by federal and state funds with the district's own funds totalling around 300,000 euros.
"A construction project in an existing building is always a special challenge," said the district administrator. He praised the school community and thanked them for having endured the work so well. The result showed how much the perseverance had paid off and how well the building costs had been invested. In the next few weeks, the new play equipment will be placed on the newly designed outdoor area to complete the project, so that the educational programme will be optimally complemented by additional play, climbing and exercise options.
