Block debris piles at Lake Edersee presented during a hike
Anyone who wanted to find out more about the boulder dumps at Lake Edersee as Geotope of the Year 2025 had the best opportunity to do so on Geotope Day on an expertly guided hike along the Bloßenberg route. During the hike, the newly erected information board (Blockschutthalden - Relics of the Ice Age) was presented and those thirsting for knowledge were given further information on the geology and habitat of the "Blockschutthalde".
The tour was organised jointly by the GrenzWelten National Geopark and the Kellerwald-Edersee National Park; geopark manager Dr Georg Bresser and deputy national park manager Achim Frede were available as expert guides for the hiking group. Whether on a detour to Christian's Eck on the Daudenberg route or at the rocky locations of the Pfingstnelke, the participants learnt to see the UNESCO World Heritage Site with completely new eyes. Above all, the hike demonstrated the many ways in which the two aspects of "geology" and "nature and landscape conservation" intertwine and complement each other in the national park.
Geopark director Dr Bresser praised the excellent cooperation with the nature park and the Kellerwald-Edersee National Park in coordinating the content of the new "Blockschutthalden" information board. He once again expressed his special thanks to Achim Frede, on behalf of all the employees of the national park, for selecting the location and installing the board in an environmentally friendly way. The Geopark and National Park also received praise and thanks from all members of the group without exception, who took away a whole new enthusiasm for the geological and scenic riches on the steep slopes of Lake Edersee from their hike.
