District organises Coming Out Days from 7 to 11 October

After last year's great success, the district of Waldeck-Frankenberg is once again organising Coming Out Days this year, a week of action around queer lifestyles. The occasion is International Coming Out Day, which will be celebrated on 11 October. Various event formats in Waldeck-Frankenberg are intended to address, thematise and make visible queer topics in an accessible way in order to promote awareness of LGBTIQ* in society as a whole and acceptance of queer people. From 7 to 11 October, numerous events focusing on Bad Wildungen, but also in Bad Arolsen, Frankenberg and Korbach, as well as online, will invite people to get involved.

The aim of the Coming Out Days at the beginning of October is to promote visibility and openness for queer lifestyles - i.e. for people who are lesbian, gay, bi, trans or intersex. The aim is to encourage people to be open about their sexual orientation and gender identity. It is also about creating queer-sensitive spaces that promote openness and acceptance. The district of Waldeck-Frankenberg, with its Women and Equal Opportunities Department, is cooperating with the Christine Brückner Library in Bad Arolsen, the municipal libraries in Bad Wildungen, Frankenberg and Korbach, the Spritzenhaus youth and cultural centre in Bad Wildungen, the Queers & Friends youth club, Bähr Filmtheaterbetriebe e.K. and the KTD Competence Centre Trans* and Diversity Frankfurt/Main (dgti e.v.).

The programme during the Coming Out Days includes

  • Books and media tables for visibility and access to information in the Christine Brückner Library in Bad Arolsen and in the municipal libraries in Frankenberg and Korbach
  • Book and information corner on the topic before and after the autumn holidays in the Bad Wildungen public library
  • Screening of "Love, Simon" on 7 October at 4 pm at the Bad Wildungen cinema
  • Online lecture "Understanding, supporting, working together - a focus on queer children and young people" on 8 October
  • Stories of courage - zine-making workshop on 9 October at the Bad Wildungen youth centre
  • Action day with reading from "Bo" on 10 October at the Bad Wildungen youth centre

Further information on the events on 7, 8, 9 and 10 October will follow. For further information, please contact the district's Women and Equal Opportunities Service on 05631 954-1316 or by e-mail.
