District nature conservation award: proposals possible until 31 May

District Administrator and Head of the Nature Conservation Department Jürgen van der Horst has announced that the district of Waldeck-Frankenberg intends to award a prize again this year for long-standing and voluntary services in the field of nature conservation and landscape management as well as a special prize for young people. The nature conservation prize can be awarded to individuals, groups of people, organisations or associations who have made a special contribution to nature conservation or landscape conservation outside of their official duties and who have made an outstanding contribution through exemplary behaviour.

In previous years, the nature conservation prize has been awarded to individuals or associations of individuals, both for their services and for their voluntary work. At the last award ceremony in 2022, for example, the then 22-year-old Jasmin Heitmann was honoured with the Special Youth Award. She had distinguished herself through her special commitment to NAJU (NABU/Nature Conservation Youth). The main prize went to Gerhard Kuhnhenne, who was honoured for his many years of commitment as chairman of the Lichtenfels NABU group, among other things. Secondly, Dr Karl-Hermann Svoboda received the award for his many years of service as chairman of the Volkmarser NABU group.

"We are asking the citizens of the district to submit proposals for the 2026 Award for Nature Conservation and Landscape Management and the Special Youth Award," said the district administrator. The proposal must contain a detailed description of the respective meritorious work in the field of nature conservation and landscape management; submissions are possible until 31 May 2026. Further information can be found online - as well as a list of previous award winners.
