New Goddelsheim GS building: planning application to be submitted this quarter
District Administrator Jürgen van der Horst, Project Manager Simone Jungermann from the Building Management Department, Head of Schools and Education Claudia Knublauch and Primary School Principal Carina Scharlach met with Mayor Henning Scheele last Thursday at the town hall in Lichtenfels-Goddelsheim to present the current plans for the new primary school in Goddelsheim. The project, which has an estimated gross investment volume of around 8.2 million euros, is expected to be completed in 2028.
Limited space and fire safety challenges
The current building, which houses the primary school pupils from Goddelsheim, can no longer keep up with the increased demands on the educational programme. Legal changes in the area of fire safety also limit the options at the Korbacher Straße site. "The old building does not fulfil modern requirements. There is a lack of space and the stricter fire safety regulations mean that we cannot utilise the existing premises as we need to. The building is also reaching its limits in terms of afternoon supervision," explains primary school headmaster Carina Scharlach.
Future location in Sachsenberger Straße
Teachers and pupils currently commute between the primary school and the centre school in Goddelsheim. This is because lunch and the afternoon programme can currently only be offered to children at the MPS in Sachsenberger Straße. "The old building is no longer up to date. We are now taking the opportunity to create the necessary proximity to the MPS. The new building will not only enable us to meet the increasing demands for education and care, but will also allow us to make full use of existing resources," emphasised District Administrator Jürgen van der Horst. The linking of the two locations also offers technical possibilities. For example, the telecommunications and security technology of the MPS and the primary school will be linked so that all teachers and pupils in both buildings can be informed simultaneously in the event of an emergency. The primary school will also be connected to the existing district heating supply of the centre school.
Two-form entry primary school as an investment in the future
The planning was based on a number of 155 primary school pupils, who can be taught and cared for in eight classrooms, learning niches, recreational areas and spaces for differentiated learning in the future. "The construction of a modern, two-form entry primary school is an important investment in the future of our society, not only for Goddelsheim, but also for the neighbouring villages," adds Mayor Henning Scheele. The outdoor area will also be designed according to modern educational principles, including the existing project as a nature park school, which includes areas for flower strips, insect hotels, a barefoot path and an outdoor classroom.
Sustainable construction method and schedule
Project manager Simone Jungermann emphasises the ecological aspirations of the new construction project: "With an Efficiency House 40, we are focusing on state-of-the-art, sustainable construction methods. The two-storey timber frame construction with board stacked ceilings will have a sustainable façade design made of basalt powder tiles, as well as a green roof as a retention roof, which offers the possibility of retaining rainwater or allowing it to evaporate. There will also be space for PV systems on the roof, which will be connected to a battery storage unit in the basement." The planning application for the project is to be submitted before the end of this quarter. Construction is scheduled to begin in mid-2026 and the primary school pupils should be able to move into the new building in 2028. "The plans for this new building are an important step towards a modern and functional educational landscape in the district," summarises Claudia Knublauch, Head of Schools and Education.
