Speed limit of 70 km/h on the B253 near Röddenau

The district of Waldeck-Frankenberg informs about the introduction of a speed limit of 70 km/h in the area of the federal road 253 near Röddenau. The speed limit will initially apply as a traffic trial until 30 June 2027.

The background to this decision, which was taken by the district together with Hessen Mobil Straßen- und Verkehrsmanagement Bad Arolsen, the Waldeck-Frankenberg police department and the town of Frankenberg, is that traffic accidents have repeatedly occurred on the B253 trunk road in the past, particularly at the junctions with the 3073 state road and the 125 district road.

Improving road safety
Extensive investigations have shown that excessive speed is not the main cause of accidents and that this section of road does not yet meet the criteria of an accident blackspot according to the road traffic regulations. Nevertheless, a traffic test is to be carried out to determine whether a speed reduction can nevertheless contribute to an improvement in road safety.

Traffic trial until 30 June 2027
The trial is limited until 30 June 2027 and includes the junction area of the B253/K125 in both directions and the junction area of the B253/L3073 from the direction of Korbach. The effectiveness of the speed limits will be analysed by means of regular undercover traffic surveys and by evaluating the number of accidents. The trial will then be analysed and its effectiveness evaluated in the second half of 2027.
