Breastfeeding-friendly places

Breastfeeding-friendly places

Breastfeeding is good for the health of mother and child and promotes bonding. This is why the district of Waldeck-Frankenberg promotes the establishment of breastfeeding-friendly locations. Breast milk offers the healthiest and most natural nutrition in the first months of life, is easily digestible, strengthens the baby's immune system and is effective against various illnesses, infections and allergies.

Suitable places are important so that mothers can breastfeed comfortably and without worry when they are out and about. With the breastfeeding-friendly places, the district publicises public and private facilities where breastfeeding or feeding - whether with breast milk or a bottle - is expressly welcome. These can be town halls, shops, pharmacies, restaurants, cafés, etc. In principle, of course, breastfeeding can take place anywhere. However, breastfeeding-friendly places are characterised by the fact that they offer a welcoming and pleasant environment. They are labelled with a corresponding icon. There is also an overview on the district's website.

In a breastfeeding-friendly place, breastfeeding is expressly welcome, comfortable seating is available and people who are breastfeeding or feeding do not necessarily have to eat or buy anything.

Additionally desirable are:

  • A retreat for breastfeeding
  • a free glass of water
  • a nappy-changing facility
  • Parking facilities for a pushchair

Companies and organisations can strengthen family friendliness in Waldeck-Frankenberg and facilitate the participation of families in towns and communities - and register online as breastfeeding-friendly locations.
