Self-help contact point offers trial session for video meetings

Many self-help activists are deterred from video meetings by technical hurdles. The self-help contact point of the district shows how it can be done.

The self-help groups in the Waldeck-Frankenberg district are also affected by the restrictions caused by the Corona pandemic: Group meetings have been suspended for many months. The digital space offers an alternative as a bridge until the time when face-to-face meetings can be held again. However, many self-help activists are deterred from meeting in video meetings by concerns, technical hurdles and lack of know-how. The staff of the Self-Help Contact Point, Heike Eschler and Kristin Schmidt-Momberg, now want to remedy this situation with a "trial session" on two dates.

During the trial hour under the motto "Let's go", interested self-help activists are given the opportunity to try out a digital conference tool together. This is intended to make it easier for them to get started and to reduce inhibitions. In addition, the self-help activists can become more confident in dealing with the virtual possibilities of group meetings.

The trial hour offers assistance in clarifying questions, e.g. about the equipment needed, gives advice on handling, e.g. how invitation links are sent or how logging in works, and last but not least deals with the so important topic of data protection. Appeal of the self-help contact point: "Don't be afraid of new things, we are there for you and support you. In the trial hour, we will click our way through the Big Blue Button programme together in an informal way." Participants learn to use functions for their group meetings so that there is no longer a technical barrier to sharing with the group. A first trial session will be held on Tuesday, 15 June 2021, from 11:00 - 12:00, and another on Monday, 21 June 2021, from 17:00 - 18:00.
