Veterans' Day
Veterans' Day 2026
As a sign of gratitude for the achievements of veterans in Germany, the Bundestag has decided to introduce a national Veterans' Day in 2024 - to honour their commitment to peace, freedom, democracy and a strong society. In order to make this commitment visible at district level, the district council has decided to organise an annual central Veterans' Day event in Waldeck-Frankenberg. This year, it will take place in the Eder Valley - in the form of a two-week exhibition at the barrier wall on Lake Edersee.
Faces of life from 21 June to 4 July
For the first Veterans' Day in Waldeck-Frankenberg, the district, together with Edersee Marketing GmbH, is showing the photo exhibition "Faces of Life" by photographer Daniela Skrzypczak. She honours veterans in portraits and documents emotional moments in their lives. Through photography, the artist brings people, soldiers and veterans into the focus of society - for more attention and the promotion of social participation. The exhibition can be seen daily from 21 June to 4 July at the visitor centre at the Sperrmauer on Lake Edersee. It is free of charge and open to all visitors.
