Conversion of housing for the disabled is subsidised

People with disabilities should be able to live independently in their own homes without assistance. The state of Hesse therefore supports the conversion of owner-occupied housing to make it suitable for the disabled. The district has about 110,000 euros in funding available for this purpose. Applications can be submitted until 1 October.

Adequate housing for people with disabilities is an important issue - also in Waldeck-Frankenberg. "We therefore welcome the fact that there will also be funding from the state for the conversion of owner-occupied housing in 2022," says the First District Commissioner of the district Karl-Friedrich Frese. "The focus here is on people with impairments, not on age-appropriate housing without disabilities."

Accordingly, structural measures, facilities and equipment on and in existing residential buildings and on the residential property are eligible for funding, for example the improvement of toilet rooms and bathrooms, the installation of suitable lifts or the removal of steps and thresholds as well as the construction and design of ramps and stairs. In addition, only building projects whose financing is secured and which have not yet been started before WIBank approves the funding are eligible for funding. Own work and measures costing less than 1,500 euros are not eligible for funding.

The funding is a project funding and takes the form of fixed-amount financing. The grant amounts to up to 50 percent of the measure-related conversion costs of the dwelling used by the owner or relatives. The following maximum grant amounts apply to eligible measures: Bathroom: conversion/installation 5,500 euros, kitchen: conversion/installation 5,500 euros, lift/ lift installation 6,500 euros, all other eligible individual measures 3,000 euros.

Since experience shows that more applications for subsidies are received than subsidy funds are available, the maximum subsidy amounts are reduced by the housing subsidy office on a percentage basis so that as many applicants as possible can benefit from the subsidies. Applications can be submitted to the district until 1 October.
