Financial support for drug and addiction counselling

The district of Waldeck-Frankenberg supports the addiction and drug counselling centre of the Diakonisches Werk annually with a contractually agreed grant of about 230,000 euros. According to Karl-Friedrich Frese, First District Commissioner and Head of the Health Department, the financial support will gradually increase by up to 12.5 per cent from next year.

"Currently, our share is 75 per cent of the expenditure in the Diakonisches Werk for addiction and drug counselling," Frese explains. For the financial years 2024 and 2025, the share will now be increased to 82.5 per cent, and then to 87.5 per cent from 2026. During a working meeting between the district and the Diakonisches Werk in the new district administration building at Korbach Südring, a corresponding contract amendment was concluded.

Background:
The addiction counselling service of the Diakonisches Werk Waldeck-Frankenberg in the Waldeck-Frankenberg district has been in existence since 1979 and works throughout the district. The head office is located in Korbach, with branch offices in Bad Arolsen, Bad Wildungen and Frankenberg. The counselling centre is a contact point for people who have problems with alcohol, illegal drugs, medication, gambling as well as computer and internet use, as well as their relatives and the social environment. In addition to information and counselling on help measures, referrals to clinics or other outpatient and inpatient services can be made. The counselling centre also offers outpatient "rehabilitation addiction" in the district.

Since 1997, the work has been complemented by the affiliated Addiction Prevention Unit, which develops a social space-oriented and holistic prevention work with various cooperation partners and multipliers throughout the district. Another offer in the entire district is outpatient assisted living as a service for participation. In prevention, there is usually project-related cooperation. For counselling and treatment, there are regular office hours by appointment via the head office of the Diakonisches Werk in Korbach under telephone 05631 5029110.
