CITY CYCLING: New record and top places nationwide

This year's CITY CYCLING in the district of Waldeck-Frankenberg was a complete success: within just three weeks, the participants covered over 630,000 kilometres by bike - more than ever before. With this record result, the district secured 7th place in Hesse in the category of districts with 100,000 to 499,999 inhabitants in terms of total kilometres covered, thus improving on previous years.

Particularly noteworthy: no other district in Hesse has cycled more kilometres in relation to the number of inhabitants in the category 100,000 to 499,999 inhabitants than the district of Waldeck-Frankenberg. The district is also at the forefront in North Hesse. The region is thus not only sending out a strong signal in favour of climate protection, but also for the growing enthusiasm for cycling. There is also reason to celebrate at local authority level: the national park community of Edertal took first place in the group of local authorities with less than 10,000 inhabitants in terms of kilometres per inhabitant - an unprecedented milestone.

Never before have so many people from the region taken part in CITY CYCLING as this year. First District Councillor Karl-Friedrich Frese is delighted: "This result is a strong sign of our joint commitment to sustainability and the mobility transition. I would like to thank all participants for their commitment." Local mobility coordinator Martha Schweizer from the district of Waldeck-Frankenberg was also visibly satisfied. "It's impressive to see how much enthusiasm there is for CITY CYCLING in our district. The commitment of the citizens shows that climate protection and sustainable mobility in everyday life are close to the hearts of more and more people. We are proud of the result and would like to thank everyone who made this event such a success."

With this new record result, the district of Waldeck-Frankenberg is emphasising its claim to play a pioneering role in environmentally friendly mobility in Hesse. The results can be viewed here, and the district will present the awards for the individual winning categories in September. STADTRADELN is a nationwide campaign organised by the Climate Alliance network and aims to motivate people to use their bikes more often in everyday life - for their health, for the environment and for a better quality of life.
