"The earthquake in Chilli"

"The earthquake in Chilli"
An adaptation of Heinrich von Kleist's novella by the advanced DS course of the Rosa-Luxemburg-Gymnasium Berlin under the direction of Sabine Kündiger.
1643: A couple cannot live their love; the illegitimate pregnancy of the young girl provokes the authorities of the church. Blind faith, superstition and dogma lead to both lovers being sentenced to prison and the death penalty. The turmoil and effects of a sudden devastating earthquake save the couple from execution. In an unreal idyll of nature, they find each other again after their violent separation and plan a life with their child far away from the brutal persecution by the church and the mob. However, when the lovers return to the town for a thanksgiving service, a fateful twist is set in motion ...
Force of nature and human violence - these central themes take centre stage in the performative adaptation of the DS advanced course. The group tells the story of Jeronimo and Josephe. In telling the story, they reflect on our times and come to the realisation that many things have not changed to this day.
The course is (still) the only one of its kind in Germany. A school trial enabled it to be developed and trialled at a higher level. Lessons take place across all year groups. Eight pupils from the twelfth year and five pupils from the eleventh year work together in the course.
