Community carers support people in need of care

In order to enable especially elderly people or people in need of help to lead an independent life and to participate socially, there are now community caregivers in the district of Waldeck-Frankenberg. With the support of the state of Hesse, they are employed by the district's specialist health service and arrange support services on site.

They are not only to recognise everyday problems in people, but also to identify needs in advance of illnesses or imminent need for care in order to organise the necessary assistance at an early stage. The coordination of existing services is in the foreground here, because the staff members do not offer medical or nursing services themselves, but advise and coordinate existing services or organise appropriate support services. Their tasks also include home visits, planning support services together with relatives or family doctors or strengthening local networks.

Long and well cared for self-determined living
"Especially older people can get help from our community caregivers so that they can live as long and self-determined as possible in their familiar living environment," says District Administrator Jürgen van der Horst. "Particularly in times of the pandemic, which is often accompanied by loneliness among older people, our services can serve as support in all kinds of problem situations," continues First District Commissioner Karl-Friedrich Frese. In this way, they also support the valuable work of the district's care support centre, the two department heads emphasise.

Free counselling and support
The counselling and support services are free of charge. The community care workers are available to all people in the district if needed. They offer home visits for counselling, but can also be found in the offices in Adorf, Sachsenhausen, Frankenau and Battenberg. Referrals can also be made through the care support centre. The contact persons there are Kathrin Hartmann at 05631 954-556 and Matthias Engel at 05631 954-881.
