Democracy Conference on 27 October in the Korbach community centre

The Network for Tolerance and the specialist units for democracy promotion and cross-phenomena extremism prevention as well as migration and integration of the Waldeck-Frankenberg district invite you to the next democracy conference on 27 October at 6 pm in the Korbach community centre. Interested parties are cordially invited to attend.

This time, the theme of the biannual event is the diversity of post-Soviet migration biographies. Under the title "Identity Chaos: Post-Soviet Migration Stories", a round of talks will take place in a talk show format. The aim is to present the different life paths and experiences of post-Soviet migrants who arrived in the district mainly in the 1990s as so-called late resettlers or Russian Germans. Not only since the war in Ukraine have they been confronted with the question "Are you Russian or German?". Most of them are neither one nor the other and are characterised by diverse family constellations that have relatives in Kazakhstan, Ukraine, Russia and other post-Soviet states.

Identity chaos is thus pre-programmed. To bring a little clarity and experienced stories into the chaos, there will be a short impulse lecture by the researcher Dr. Alina Jašina-Schäfer from the Federal Institute for Culture and History of the Germans in Eastern Europe. Afterwards, in a moderated round of talks, the director Natalija Yefimkina, Eugenie Frank from the Landsmannschaft der Deutschen aus Russland (Association of Germans from Russia) and Sergej Prokopkin, who works as an anti-discrimination trainer and social media manager, will talk about their personal experiences and invite the audience to join in the conversation.

The event will be accompanied by piano music from Soviet films, played by Malte Mekiffer. Drinks and snacks will be available during the break. Admission is free, prior registration is not necessary. Interested parties are cordially invited to attend the event.
