Dance demo against violence on 14 February in Korbach

The Women's Office of the Waldeck-Frankenberg district wants to set a visible sign against violence against women and girls and for equality - and invites you to a joint dance demonstration as part of the worldwide campaign "One Billion Rising" on 14 February from 4 p.m. in the Korbach lowlands at the Berndorfer Tor.

Violence against women and girls is one of the most widespread human rights violations worldwide. It is estimated that 35 per cent of all women have suffered violence at some point in their lives; in some countries this figure is as high as 70 per cent. One in 3 women worldwide has been a victim of violence, beaten, forced into sexual contact, raped or otherwise abused. Every third woman, that is one billion (One Billion) women.

"On 14 February, everyone is therefore invited to come to the Korbach Lowlands in the pedestrian zone and - if you like - to dance, to stand up to make a statement together," says the district's women's representative Beate Friedrich. "Because we are only strong together, we would like to share this message with as many people as possible and look forward to a large turnout for the event," adds Friedrich's deputy Miriam Drüppel.

Under the motto "Break the Chain: Break the Chains of Violence", dancers from the TSV Korbach, the Bad Arolsen Dance School, the Alte Landesschule Korbach and the "Namid" dance group of the Protestant Youth in the Eder Church District will present several performances on 14 February. In between, there will be statements by representatives of the district, the city of Korbach and the White Ring - to set a sign against violence together. The Women's Office is also supported by the district's sports and youth work department.

The action "One Billion Rising" (OBR) is a worldwide campaign for an end to violence against women and girls and for equality. With a lot of positive energy, the OBR protest action has succeeded in establishing itself as a symbol of global women's solidarity every year on 14 February.
