New self-help group from 26 October

After several self-help groups have already been founded this year, the next new offer is due to start on 26 October. Supported and accompanied in the initial phase by the Waldeck-Frankenberg self-help contact point, it is aimed at people affected by epilepsy and their relatives. It offers participants mutual understanding, the opportunity to talk to each other, to feel understood and to jointly find a way to deal with the burden in order to better cope with everyday life. The aim of the new self-help group is also to educate the public about the disease.

The initiative for the foundation came from a person affected. Interested people will meet for a first meeting on Thursday, 26 October 2023, at 4 p.m. in Kirchstraße 16 at the Korbach rehapro project "Time Out for Health". The meeting is organised and moderated by the self-help contact point. For organisational reasons, registration is requested by 24 October 2023 by phone 05631 954-888 or email shk@lkwafkb.de. Further information on the new group is also available there.

The self-help contact point is looking forward to many participants. Epilepsies are temporary malfunctions in which the brain or individual areas of the brain emit too many signals at once. This triggers the so-called epileptic seizures. Sometimes only individual muscles twitch - but the entire body can also convulse and there can be disturbances in perception and movement. This can even lead to a sudden loss of consciousness. A diagnosis of epilepsy is very unsettling for many of those affected.

Unfortunately, there is still a lack of accurate knowledge about epilepsies among the general public. They are one of the health disorders that are met with a multitude of misconceptions and prejudices, although expertise in this area in particular has increased considerably in recent decades.
