Self-help contact centre supports founding of bowel cancer group

The district's self-help contact centre has supported the establishment of a new self-help group for people with bowel cancer or an artificial bowel outlet or artificial urinary diversion in Bad Wildungen. The group will meet for the first time on 22 January at 2.30 pm in the multi-generation house. Anyone interested is cordially invited to attend.

According to studies, over 150,000 people in Germany live with a stoma, i.e. an artificial bowel outlet or an artificial urinary diversion. More than 60,000 people are diagnosed with bowel cancer every year. In the new group called "ILCO - Self-help group for stoma carriers and people with bowel cancer and their relatives", those affected and their relatives can talk about the disease - and offer each other support.

Anyone interested is welcome to come along to the meeting. It is not necessary to register for the meeting. If you have any questions about self-help in general, please contact the district's self-help contact centre by emailing shk@lkwafkb.de or calling 05631 - 954 1888. Questions about the bowel cancer self-help group can be answered by calling 0176-5328 3725 or sending an e-mail to nordhessen@ilco-kontakt.de.

The district's self-help contact centre aims to spread the idea of self-help through educational work and thus create a self-help-friendly climate in the district. It supports and promotes groups in their work, provides advice on the subject of self-help and on working in a self-help group, provides information on financial support options and helps with the application process. If there is not yet a self-help group on the desired topic, it also provides advice on how to set one up.
