Living diversity: Diversity Day in the district administration

Under the motto "Living diversity - recognising and acting on racism", the Social Affairs department, together with the Women and Equal Opportunities department of the district of Waldeck-Frankenberg, once again played an active role in shaping the nationwide Diversity Day this year. The focus of the activities was on consciously addressing anti-racism and promoting an inclusive organisational culture - in line with the Diversity Charter signed in 2019.

Employees were invited to engage with topics such as everyday racism, structural discrimination and intercultural understanding through a wide range of low-threshold training formats. The aim was to promote empathy, enable a change of perspective and raise awareness of the realities of life for people who have experienced discrimination.

This year, the involvement of the student company "Culture of Change" from the vocational schools in Korbach and Bad Arolsen was particularly noteworthy. The students independently developed the interactive game of the same name. This playfully promoted dialogue about diversity and prejudices - and was particularly well received by the participants. Other offers such as a book table, podcast and literature tips as well as a digital diversity wall provided additional impetus for individual further education and active participation. Personal statements against racism could be captured in a photo box - a visible sign of diversity in everyday working life.

"Many employees deliberately took the time to engage intensively with the topic," said First District Councillor Karl-Friedrich Frese. "The in-depth discussions in particular show how important such formats are for the further development of a non-discriminatory administrative culture." With Diversity Day 2025, the Waldeck-Frankenberg district administration is emphasising its clear commitment to the Diversity Charter and sending a strong signal for respect, tolerance and equal opportunities in the workplace.

Further information on the charter can be found on the Waldeck-Frankenberg district website at www.landkreis-waldeck-frankenberg.de.
