13 new trainees at the district

As in the previous year, 13 young people started their careers at the district of Waldeck-Frankenberg in 2025. Five of them are completing an apprenticeship as administrative assistants and five are enrolled on a dual study programme leading to a Bachelor of Arts in Public Administration. Two have opted for the "Bachelor of Arts Social Work" dual study programme at the district and one young person has chosen the "Bachelor of Engineering Civil Engineering" programme.

During the three-day "trainee days" at the sports, nature and adventure camp organised by Sportjugend Hessen at Lake Edersee, the new trainees and students received their first team training and got to know each other and the other junior employees of the district better in a relaxed atmosphere. After First District Councillor Karl-Friedrich Frese had welcomed them and wished them lots of fun and success, the first day was all about climate protection and climate adaptation.

The district's climate protection management team provided information about the challenges of climate change and its consequences. In practical workshops, the trainees and students identified the specific consequences of climate change for the district. They developed ideas and measures on how the district can actively contribute to climate protection and mitigate the consequences of climate change. In addition to the technical discussion, team building played an important role through the joint work in small groups.

Even more intensive team training was on the programme for the second day. Organised by Head of Sports and Youth Work Matthias Schäfer and Coordinator Hessencampus in the Schools and Education Department Svenja Lotze, it was all about thought, skill and community. In teams, the junior staff developed strategies to master various stations during a planning phase. At the end of the "Trainee Days", the trainees and students finally took a close look at administrative processes as "digital detectives": they focused on the digitalisation of administration, the improvement of processes and thus also the active shaping of administration.

The district of Waldeck-Frankenberg is currently still looking for people interested in starting their training or studies in late summer 2026. The application deadline is 30 September 2025, further information is available online at www.mein-check-in.de/landkreis-waldeck-frankenberg.
