Diabetes self-help group starts on 17 September in Bad Arolsen

A new self-help group, supported and advised by the Waldeck-Frankenberg self-help contact centre, is being set up in the residential town of Bad Arolsen in September. The topic of the group is diabetes. Affected people with type 2 diabetes aged 18 and over, as well as relatives and interested professionals who would like to find out more about living with diabetes, are invited to join.

The first meeting will take place as an information event on founding a group on 17 September from 4 to 6 pm in the premises of Treffpunkt e.V. (Große Allee 16). All interested parties are cordially invited. If you would like to find out more in advance, you can do so on the group's website. There you will also find a link to the WhatsApp info channel of the new self-help group.

After being diagnosed with diabetes, those affected often don't know what to expect. Many think that from now on almost everything that gives pleasure is forbidden. Some withdraw completely for fear of no longer being able to take part in events. Some are even ashamed of their diagnosis. However, this does not have to be the case, because even if diabetes cannot be cured, it is still very possible to lead a "normal" life.

Of course, the path is not always easy and things have to be changed and taken into account. But a diabetes diagnosis does not mean that you can no longer enjoy life. The new self-help group enables those affected to share their experiences and information, and members support each other. Mutual appreciation and encouragement in the group help to make life with diabetes easier and more natural.

For better planning of the first meeting on 17 September, please register by 14 September at the self-help contact point by e-mail or by telephone on 05631 954-1888. The staff at the self-help contact centre will also be happy to answer any questions about self-help in general using the contact details provided.
