Parking

Parking

For many, the car is an important way to be and remain mobile. Adequate disabled parking spaces are therefore important in front of public facilities and at important central points - for example, in front of supermarkets, doctors' surgeries, theatres and cinemas, restaurants and railway stations, but also on your own doorstep. As a rule, "own" disabled parking spaces can be applied for at the municipal road traffic authority.

Parking permit for severely disabled persons

Severely disabled persons can apply for a parking permit at the public order offices or citizens' offices of the respective cities and municipalities. Under certain conditions, they receive permission to park in places where this is not usually permitted. Entitled persons can also use the parking facilitation as a passenger; an own driver's licence is not required. Proof of entitlement is the parking permit in connection with the written exemption, which explains and limits the individual exemptions.

Note: The parking permit must be clearly visible behind the windscreen of the parked car, and the exemption permit must always be carried.

"Blue parking card" (EU-wide)
The "parking card for severely disabled persons with exceptional walking disabilities, blind persons and severely disabled persons with bilateral amelia or phocomelia or with comparable functional limitations " on a blue background is issued as a European parking card. It entitles the holder to park in parking spaces for severely disabled persons (wheelchair user symbol) in all EU member states and allows for further facilitations such as:
parking for up to 3 hours in restricted parking areas (signs 286, 290 StVO)
parking in traffic-calmed areas under certain conditions
parking for up to 3 hours in residents' parking spaces

"Orange parking permit" (nationwide)
With the orange "parking permit for special groups of severely disabled people", parking facilities such as the above examples also apply nationwide.
