National Geopark GrenzWelten publishes new leaflet

The Helletal Gorge is located directly north of Winterberg's town centre and is also easy to reach via the Ruhr-Eder GeoRad Route. The ideal starting point for a hike is the spa park. From there, after a short time, you reach the huge notch valley within the 59-hectare nature reserve "Schluchtwald Helle". The V-shape of the valley, which was cut into the rock by the Helle River over thousands of years, is typical for low and high mountains.

Along the popular gorge and bridge trail, the hike goes through 390-million-year-old slate rocks, evidence of a primeval sea. Over small bridges, along wild streams, waterfalls and rare vegetation, the path leads down to Lake Constance at Elkeringhausen - an experience for every hiking and nature enthusiast.

The new leaflet closes the geological information gap around the Helletal Gorge in particular. In its compact form, the leaflet is ideal as a small pocket companion when touring along the gorge and bridge trail. It is now available free of charge at the GrenzWelten Geopark project office, at the Winterberg Tourist Information, at the Korn Kurparkstuben at the Kur- und Vitalpark in Winterberg and can be downloaded from the Geopark website www.geopark-grenzwelten.de.
