District offers vaccinations for children from five years of age

After the Permanent Vaccination Commission (STIKO) at the Robert Koch Institute expanded its vaccination recommendation, the Waldeck-Frankenberg district will offer vaccinations for children from the age of five in the last week of the year at the Korbach Mini Vaccination Centre in the small Hauerhalle. It is not necessary to make an appointment.

Paediatricianson hand
From 27 to 30 December, parents and their children can come to Korbach between 2 p.m. and 7 p.m. without making an appointment to have their children vaccinated. Special paediatricians will be on hand to provide comprehensive information and medical advice on request. The district offers these special vaccination days to support paediatricians in private practice with vaccinations and to further promote the vaccination campaign.

Childhood vaccination also at the individual's request
After the STIKO had already recommended vaccination for all 12 to 17 year-olds in August, it is now extending its recommendation and is generally in favour of vaccination for children aged five to eleven with various previous illnesses. In addition, it is also recommended for children who are in contact with persons at high risk of a severe course of the disease and who themselves cannot be protected or can only be insufficiently protected by vaccination. Furthermore, all other children from the age of five can be vaccinated upon individual request.

Sufficient BionTech vaccine
For children from five to eleven years of age, sufficient vaccine is available from the company Biontech & Pfizer, which has adapted the dose especially for children. However, children and adolescents from 12 up to and including 17 years of age can still receive a vaccination on these days, as can their accompanying adults with legal guardianship. For all others, the centre will be closed on these four days. "We ask for your understanding that we would like to let the children and adolescents have priority here on these days," says First District Commissioner and Head of Health Karl-Friedrich Frese. "Furthermore, we would like to ask for your patience in case of waiting times. We cannot make a final estimate of the demand and the amount of counselling required, which is why there may be delays." It is also best to spread the vaccinations over the entire week. To ensure that the recommended vaccination interval can be adhered to, there will be additional vaccination days for children and adolescents in the third calendar week from 17 to 20 January for the second vaccination.

Have documents ready
The following should be brought to the vaccination: The child's health insurance card and vaccination certificate, the guardian's identity card and, if possible, the already completed "Information sheet for vaccination against Covid-19 with mRNA vaccine" and the already completed "Medical history and consent form for vaccination against Covid-19 with mRNA vaccine". The documents can be downloaded from the district's website at www.landkreis-waldeck-frankenberg.de/impfen.
