New field of foster child care at the Landkreis

In order to be able to take care of the areas of "foster children" and "adoptions" even better, they are taken care of in the Youth Department in the field of "foster child assistance".

Foster children and adoptions are two important areas of responsibility of the district of Waldeck-Frankenberg as the responsible body for local youth welfare. In order to be able to take care of these two important areas even better in the future, the tasks are to be carried out jointly in the Youth Department. Karl-Friedrich Frese, first district councillor and head of the youth department, informed about the establishment of the new department "Foster Child Care".

"The new department also includes adoption counselling," explained Frese; up to now, the counselling of people interested in adoption was done by a separate department in the Youth Department. As before, the caseworkers advise and inform people who are interested in fostering or adoption. In addition, they prepare both foster care and adoption relationships and offer further training for foster carers and adoptive parents who have taken in or adopted a child.

Anyone who needs help for their child or is considering releasing it for adoption is also in the right place in the new "foster child assistance" field. This is because foster parents or adoptive parents are also placed there. In addition, the specialists in foster child assistance are available as contact persons for tracing the child's origin and for biographical work. Finally, public relations work and advertising are also carried out in the "Foster Child Aid" with the aim of recruiting potential foster parents and informing them about the actual work of foster parents.

At present, three staff members are working in the new department, and another position is to be filled in the near future, continued the First District Commissioner. Finally, he pointed out two information events for those interested in caring for foster children - whether in the context of permanent, short-term or standby care - and cordially invited them to participate:

- on Thursday, 7 October 2021, from 7:00 p.m. at the Enzian Restaurant, Am Berndorfer Tor 3, 34497 Korbach, and

- on Wednesday, 13 October 2021, from 7:00 p.m. at Gasthof Vöhl, Neustädter Straße 20, 35066 Frankenberg (Eder).
