District Administrator: "Deeply shocked by tragic event in Berlin".
According to police, a car drove into a crowd of people near the Berlin Memorial Church on Wednesday. Among the injured are pupils from Bad Arolsen. One teacher was killed. District Administrator Jürgen van der Horst is deeply shocked by the terrible event.
A school class from the Kaulbach School in Bad Arolsen, which had been on a class trip to the capital, is affected. "We are deeply saddened by the tragic events in Berlin," say District Administrator Jürgen van der Horst and First District Commissioner Karl-Friedrich Frese. "Our deepest sympathy goes to the relatives of the deceased teacher, the affected pupils and parents who are under the impression of this terrible situation. We are currently doing everything possible to support those affected."
Together with the Waldeck-Frankenberg police department and the city of Bad Arolsen, the district set up a crisis team and a contact point for affected parents. Emergency services, emergency chaplains and school social workers provided immediate psychological support to the relatives. Furthermore, the district and the city quickly took care of the return journey of the pupils from Berlin to Waldeck-Frankenberg.
