STADTRADELN started on 4 June with National Park Festival

The Kellerwald-Edersee National Park celebrated UNESCO World Heritage Day on 4 June at the National Park Centre in Vöhl-Herzhausen in the presence of Hesse's Environment Minister Priska Hinz under the motto "Our World. Our Heritage. Our responsibility". With a rally to the centre, the event also marks the start of the international STADTRADELN competition in the National Park region.

"Making a contribution to climate protection, perhaps swapping the car for the bicycle, doing something good for your health and experiencing something together - that's exactly what you can combine in the STADTRADELN campaign. Every kilometre we cover by bicycle instead of by car reduces our CO2 emissions and thus contributes to protecting the environment," says Hinz. "With the UNESCO World Heritage Site in the National Park on our own doorstep, it should be of great concern to us to treat our nature and landscape particularly responsibly," adds National Park Director Manuel Schweiger. "We can all contribute to protecting and preserving this unique nature." The Kellerwald-Edersee National Park, the district of Waldeck-Frankenberg and the national park municipality of Vöhl as organisers of the STADTRADELN kick-off event thus share a common concern to promote climate-friendly, sustainable mobility in the region.

"On the occasion of UNESCO World Heritage Day, the focus will be on questions of sustainability, in particular how our earth can continue to be preserved for future generations in a way that is worth living," says Karl-Friedrich Frese, First District Commissioner of the Waldeck-Frankenberg district. "With campaigns such as participation in the STADTRADELN, the promotion of cycle path construction in Waldeck-Frankenberg, but also the development of a cycling concept for everyday life, the district also wants to set accents for sustainable mobility here." Mayor Karsten Kalhöfer is proud that the kick-off event for STADTRADELN is taking place in combination with the UNESCO World Heritage Day in the national park community of Vöhl. "Cycling is becoming more and more popular," says Kalhöfer. "The participation of numerous municipalities from the district in STADTRADELN provides a good framework for bringing cycling into the public eye as a sustainable, climate-neutral and environmentally conscious way of getting around." Minister Hinz was able to see for herself on an e-bike tour from Frankenau to the National Park Centre that the region around Lake Eder is ideal for cycling.
